  1. Why not take your one bolt to a motor factor and ask if they have similar. They sound as though they might be 6mm bolts.
  2. I think they may be right. Some tyre depots are better than others when it comes to doing wheel alignment. When it's done, make sure they centre the steering wheel and lock it before they start checking. Some fitters don't bother and when they get underneath, the steering wheel moves off centre.
  3. Yes! Pity they can't still make them. A much simpler engine with less to go wrong. Unless you needed to replace the Octopus.. :D Mine had the most comfortable seats in it that I've ever sat on.
  4. Usually it's driven onto the ramp and the features on the underside are examined. The steering on lock to lock is done with the wheels on the ground but standing on rotating plates. Then it is raised off all four wheels, usually by the jacks on the cross beams. It's at this point that the suspension should be in the raised position..
  5. Yes! That's it. It's possible to jack up without first raising the suspension without any damage being caused, but also the suspension is just as likely to stick on 'high'. Therefore Citroen recommend that the suspension is raised before jacking. Certainly whenever I took my C5 for MOT, I always told the assistant to raise it first. Some MOT guys are aware - and some aren't.
  6. Now if you'd asked that question about the BX, the answer would have been an emphatic "Yes". You could move the lever to allow the suspension to go to it's highest point. Then put a jack (or even an axle stand) under the sill support, then lower the suspension, and the wheel lifted up off the ground. A very useful device., but the C5 doesn't work that way.
  7. My previous C5 was a 2005 Mk2 Exclusive estate and it too had the HID lights. The original sidelights bulbs didn't last long and their replacements didn't either. Although it's been said that bulbs can be replaced from under the bonnet, I never found it possible, so each time the bumper needed to come off. Finally I replaced them with 433C LED bulbs. They were still doing well on the car when I recently parted with it. The only unusual feature was that they stayed lit for a while after switching off.
  8. Good - well done and thank you for returning to tell us the outcome.
  9. I've edited the title for you. The gear knob just pulls off - but don't give yourself a black eye.
  10. Before you start you should get yourself some new clamps from ebay. There are lots listed for your vehicle at around a fiver each. Usually they have an 8mm bolt and you'll probably need a 13mm socket for the nut. If you have new ones to hand you can remove the old ones with an angle grinder. You'll need the vehicle fairly high off the ground on ramps are axle stands. Either way- make sure it's well supported before venturing underneath.
  11. Last year when I came over to Spain in November, I left my Saxo on the drive at home. When I returned in early March, I expected the battery to be sluggish - if not even flat. But no - the engine turned over fairly quickly and started first time.
  12. The post is irrelevant because the gaming section no longer functions.
  13. Hello & welcome to the forum. If you haven't already done so I would also buy a Haynes manual for your C5. To replace your mirror, the inside door panel needs removing. Haynes gives a blow by blow description for removing the various screws, switches, handles and speakers. Also the switch wiring which needs disconnecting. Then you need a broad bladed tool to leaver off the door panel. Some of the plastic clips may break. There are 7 of them. If you need replacements I think it's part number 6991 S6. Once you get the panel removed you'll be able to see the fixings for the mirror.
  14. Hello & welcome to the forum. Yes - for some reason Citroen cars are perceived by the UK general public to be unreliable and not in the least desirable. Recently I posted on another forum about the difficulty I had in folding my electric mirrors when I had towing mirrors attached. One reply was "to leave it unlocked. After all, it's only a Citroen." To my mind they are no worse than any other car on the market. That must be true - I've been running Citroens now for 24 years.
  15. Sixchannel. What's happened about this problem? Have you found a solution? Or is it still happening? I ask because it happened to my C5 about ten days ago. Only the once. And it hasn't happened since. Five minutes after I started, as I was driving down a steepish hill, I got ding, ding, ding and the battery light came on. I drove with it on for another mile and then switched off. When I restarted, everything was back to normal.
  16. Don't you have that useless one in the centre box. Open the lid and there may be a flip up cup holder at the rear of the box.
  17. That sounds similar to my previous C5 in that the aircon just didn't seem to be working all that well. I got a mobile guy to do both the C5 and the Xsara. First he checked them for leakage and when that was ok, he recharged them. Afterwards both were on the top line.
  18. That's enough Jeremy...
  19. You're quite right to be wary of reconditioned engines. No reconditioner is going to replace parts that are still serviceable. Also a 'recon engine' may also include an engine that had been removed from a damaged vehicle. You can pick those up from around 500 quid. Personally I wouldn't be putting another £4000 into a six year old car – especially the 1.6 model. Cut your losses and look around for another C5 – preferably one with a 2ltr engine.
  20. Tyres should be 225/55x17 101W - unless you've got large dia alloys. Timing belt is something silly like 150K miles or 10 years but I'm always happier doing them at 85K. Also it's false economy not to do the water pump and the tensioner pulleys at the same time. And for what it costs, it's worth putting on a new auxiliary belt.
  21. Go back a few more moons and you'll get to my first diesel engine which didn't have glowplugs. Instead it had a push button which opened a valve to allow diesel oil to drop onto an electric coil which was energized by the same button. The oil dropping onto the heated coil caught fire and after a minute you turned the starter. The hot fumes were sucked into the engine and hopefully it started. Once started, it was ok for the rest of the day.
  22. Hello & welcome to the forum. If two garages, one of them being a Citroen dealer says the brakes are OK then there can't be much wrong with them. Maybe you just need to get used to this car after driving your old one.
  23. In the menu you'll be able to choose between mph and kmh - as well as choosing a different language.
  24. Hello & welcome to the forum. Don't think Haynes has done a manual for your Dispatch, but there are one or two owners on the forum.
  25. How old is the battery in the plip
