I usually get replacement discs and pads for ECP and I've used both makes in the past. They both seem to be equally OK. At the moment I have the Eicher ones on my C5. Order them online and collect an hour later and you get a great discount price.

Xantia headlights are never very bright - I know, I had one for seven years. Adjustment is carried out on a screw fitting at the back of the headlamp bowl, but I would advise against fiddling with it because if it passed an MOT OK last time, any alteration of the screw will alter it from its 'pass' setting. To remove the headlights you need to first take out the sidelights. They are held by a clip which is released by pushing down at the join of the wing panel. Then the front grill needs taking off and the headlamps are held by three bolts - two at the top and one at the bottom. To improve the lighting you could try some other bulbs. I replaced mine with some Osram high output bulbs.

Well if they're doing it for free, you have no worries, but I'm very much surprised that the spheres need replacing at 48,000 miles. Generally C5 spheres last longer than those on the previous Xantia and BX model. My own C5 is just below 100thou and I have no grumbles about the ride.

C5 Estate Door Lock Does Not Open
Johndouglas replied to billc504's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Check the wiring in the rubber sheath between the car roof and the tail gate. -
Welcome to the forum. If or when problems arise tell us about them and we'll try and help.

Sorry - but I disagree. The on line company I use is http://www.valuetyres.co.uk/ I've done a couple of comparison searches in my tyre size and Valuetyres is around 20% cheaper with free local fitting.

HDI's don't necessarily have to have DPF issues. 2 ltr HDIs before 2004 don't have a DPF fitted and those built after 2004 can have them removed. My own has been without its filter for more than two years without any ill effects.

I can't help you or answer your question, but with at least one non-functioning sensor on my C5, I'll be interested in your replies or findings.

On previous Xantia and BX worn rear arm bearings made the wheels lean inwards - like /---------\ ....... I think I've seen on other forums that you can get Xantia bearings which are used on C5s from GSF and the spacers and new bolts from a Cit dealer.

What a great link this is. It's going to be a real asset in Continental route planning. -
2001 Hdi 110 Xantia 109K
Johndouglas replied to xantiagreen's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xantia
A 10/40 multigrade oil to API CD was recommended for Xantia engines. But now there are some reasonably priced better oils so go for a B3 or API CF grade. Good idea to clean the filters and change the LHM. Also it's worthwhile to change the coolant in the system. Regarding the handbrake advisory. Maybe worth changing them before next MOT. Xantia handbrakes are in three cables. One primary cable and two secondary cables which activate each front wheel. Left and right wheels each has it's own handed cable. You'd be looking at £35-£40 for a new pair. -
2.0 Hdi 110, 2002 How To Change Fuel Filter
Johndouglas replied to voguev8's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
There's no need to de-pressurize but sometimes there's difficulty getting it primed. Some versions have a lift pump in the tank which strikes up for a few minutes before each switch on. Others are without the lift pump but have a hand primer close to the filter bowl. Also there's a variety of different filters fitted. It's most important that the replacement filter matches the one being removed. Below are a couple of piccys of two different filters used on C5s. The first one's lid is held by a screwed ring. Detach the two pipe junctions and the electrical connector. Use a strap wrench to remove the screwed ring and lift off the top. On the second piccy the lid is removed by using a socket on the plastic 'nut'. Use a well-fitting socket - the corners are easily damaged. Unscrew until the lid lifts away. In both cases, use a new rubber ring when refitting. Before starting work it's advisable to pack rags under the filter bowl. Also a small bowl is useful to put the dripping filter into. -
Hello & welcome to the forum. You can get a repair kit to recondition the rear hydraulic units. Also replacement spheres are easily sourced. But it's not a job for the beginner mechanic. First you need the car raised with the wheels off the ground and secure stands under it. Although hydraulic Citroens rise up on the suspension, they can unexpectedly suddenly drop, so it's always advised not to work under them without additional support. Secondly, the hydraulic system needs de pressurized, but not before the green sphere is slightly loosened. The spheres will be extremely tight and difficult to remove without the correct tool. Unless you are confident to do the work yourself, it would be best to find an independent garage that knows Citroens. Tell us where you're situated. Maybe someone will know of one.

Welcome to the forum. I've also got a Saxo in the family fleet - but it's the 1.5 diesel. I've owned it for 14 years and it's never been back to the garage - except for it's MOT certificate. Great little cars.

I've used these guys for rear boxes, and they've seemed reasonable. Looks like you'd have to phone them for a quote. http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/Citroen_C5_Exhaust%20System.aspx

Now there's a thought Steve. You could add one to your fleet. With some white ribbons, it would make a great wedding car.... :P

Hello and welcome to the forum. In 2004 the Picasso was built using both 1.6 and 2 ltr engines. The 2ltr engines will soldier on for years, some of them knocking up megga miles. The 1.6 has a built in weak point - that being the turbo. If oil and filter maintenance over its lifetime has been anything less than "first class", you'll be looking at expensive repairs. Google "Citroen 1.6 turbo problems"

C5 Exclusive Front Suspension
Johndouglas replied to dyndrwg's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
You're the victim of another clueless MOT examiner - at least as far as Citroen hydraulics go. My C5 is very nearly nine years old and each year, before MOT is due, I raise the suspension and wipe the mist off the front struts. About four years ago I forgot to do it and sure enough, I got an advisory for them. -
Nice looking car. You ought to be proud of it.

Paul is right in that xenon lights have, according to Citroen UK, a flat beam however, they do have a slight kick up to the left of the pattern. However, it doesn't seem to dazzle oncoming drivers. Never do I get flashed by them when driving on the Continent. And yes - when I first bought my car I wrote to Citroen UK about the need for beam benders so I always carry a copy of their reply. Of course if you buy a C5 in Germany with xenon lights, it will be fitted with Continental models. As other members have found when they've considered importing a UK C5 into France, the xenon lights won't pass the French Côntrole Technique. Similarly were you to bring back your German C5 permanently into the UK, the headlights would not pass the UK MOT. To change them would be hugely expensive. How C5 xenons compare with C8 xenons, I don't know bearing in mind that the C5 already has self-levelling suspension.

Coastline will be along shortly and no doubt he'll be able to tell you. But is your starter motor turning briskly. My C5 suffered a bout of difficult starting and eventually it was found the motor wasn't turning fast enough to build up starting fuel pressure.

Obtaining Vin Codes?
Johndouglas replied to LairdM's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Is it your VIN they need? If so, you'll find it on your reg. document for the car or in a little box at the bottom right of your windscreen. It's a 17 digit number beginning VF7 -
Here's a contender for the high mileage stakes. 330K miles - with an auto box as well. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-CITROEN-C5-EXCLUSIVE-2-0-HDI-AUTO-NO-RESERVE-/121163418218?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1c35e70a6a

Hi Jdoggax. I don't think we have many AX owners - other than myself with a Saxo but welcome to the forum all the same.

That's a good idea. Filter as well. At least you'll have a reckoning point from which to calculate your future maintenance. If you have just a slight DIY ability and a few tools, it's an easy job to do yourself.
