  1. Hello puygrenet555 - How's your car doing? Did you get your Xsara running again? It would be very useful to forum members to know? Please come back and tell us.
  2. Agree with that. And the suspension pump wakes up at the same time which also adds to battery drain. Sometimes my C5 isn't used for several days at a time but I also keep many of my tools in the load area of the car. Frequent opening and closing of the car quickly leaves it with a low battery situation for the eventual start up.
  3. If your filter box is similar to mine the filter and the cat are held together with four bolts. The unit is joined into the exhaust system by a flanged joint at each end with the usual two-part clip around each flange. If the four bolts are rounded they could easily be removed with an angle grinder - likewise the flange clips - all to be replaced by new bolts and clips. There's not much room under there, so you'd probably find it easier to remove the rear box and lower the exhaust pipe.
  4. Can you hear the pump when you switch the rear washer?
  5. Good to hear that you've got it moving. But what about the leak? How's that doing?
  6. Will the car still rise and lower on the buttons?
  7. From reading other posts, it seems that the 1.6 engine can suffer two faults. One is that the seal around the injectors can leak allowing exhaust gasses to escape. The other is that if oil changes are anything less than frequent and not correctly done, then the turbo suffers and breaks down. I've never owned a 1.6 engine, but Paul has one and he will be along presently to give his take on it.
  8. Very possibly yes - Lexia would stand more chance. Certainly a Chinky Lexia would cost you less than a new Eolys tank.
  9. But £14 worth would only be a very small amount. So if the tank was almost full, surely the previous owner must have had it filled?
  10. Mk2s have the six speed box. I think they got the 6-speed at the same time as they got the 16-valves. Change over date late 2004. Yes- the 2.2 engine had the particle filter from day one, whereas the 2 ltr didn't get it until the Mk2. Both engines do well with the DPF removed. Your caravan's weight is way too much for a C5. My own car has a maximum towed weight of 1600Kgs and Citroen always downgrade the maximum towed weight for their auto cars. A similar car to mine with an auto box has a maximum of 1300Kgs.
  11. This kit is great value at that price but what the OP is after are replacement sensors for the system fitted at the factory. They would need to match.
  12. You should find the leak first. It shouldn't be too difficult to see where it's coming from. Maybe the LDS has got into the connector.
  13. That's phenomenal. Looking in my maintenance records for our cars, the C5 in 95000miles has had 2 lots of pads and 1change of discs on both front and rear. The Xsara which is on 112000 miles has had 3 lots of pads and 2 changes of discs on the rear, and 3 lots of pads and 1 change of discs on the front..
  14. If that 90bhp engine is a 2ltr one then it must be an 8-valve. To get an 8--valve engine in a C5 you'd need to be looking at Mk1s. After the facelift in late 2004 they fitted the 16-valve engines. If you decide to start looking at Mk1s then go for the 110bhp engines. The 90 will feel a bit gutless in a car as heavy as the C5. Both have turbos but the 90 is without an intercooler. C5s are popular towcars. One or two forum members tow with them - myself included. The hydraulic suspension makes for easy hitching up and towing. Mine does most of its motorway towing in 6th gear, although it's only pulling 1200Kgs. I believe some of the automatic C5s are fitted with ZF 4HP20 boxes.
  15. "Oily substance" will be LDS - the special oil used in Citroens built after 2001. The suspension reservoir and pump are situated near to the o/s front wheel. The fact you've had to top up the level indicates a leak and as the tank should be under slight pressure, one reason for the fault is that the reservoir has developed a split. Look closely at the tank to see if it's wet. Incidentally, what did you use to top up?
  16. What year of Estate are you considering? Early C5 estates are all on hydro pneumatic suspension. After (I think) 2008/9 only the Exclusives have it. All the others have steel suspension. C5s after 2004/5 came with dual mass flywheels and particle filters and both these items can be got rid of. There's a three part clutch kit available which dispenses with the DMF and also the particle filter can be stripped out. 2.2 C5s have always had particle filters. Yes - Eolys fluid (that's your oily stuff ) is expensive - around 35-40 quid a litre, and a full refill takes 5ltrs. If you're considering a Mk1, a Mk2 or a Mk3 estate C5, you've got a choice of 1.6ltr, 2ltr and 2.2ltr diesels. The 1.6s are best avoided. Many consider they are under-powered in a C5, they also develop turbo faults and finally, Coastline will never forgive you if you turn up here with one :D. The pick of the bunch is the 2ltr. If you opt for the Mk2 2ltr, it will be the 16valve version. Most of those in the Mk1s are the 8valve 110hp engines - although some have a 90hp version.
  17. For a start this particular car doesn't look all that good. Nearly every panel has scuffs and bruises. Also it needs a new boot lid. That would be enough to put me off, but then the facts don't ring true either. The vehicle is a 2003 model, they say it's been serviced by them since 2004 when the previous owner bought it. So why does the book shows three previous owners. All that together with the unknown condition of the engine, I'd be for leaving it.
  18. Yes - hold the lock button while the ignition is turned on but don't start the engine.
  19. Have you tried giving it a Citrobics session?
  20. I wonder if the previous owner has filled the tank with fluid but not told the computer. Unless the puter is told, it will still show the minimum level.
  21. First of all you could try a BSI reset. If things are the same after that then suspect the Comms 2000. That's the switching unit under the steering wheel.
  22. Hello Philip and welcome to the forum. Fire away with your questions. We'll try to help. I know of several indy Citroen garages in the south east but the only one towards the west country is near Bournemouth.
  23. Can we take it that the LDS fluid level is correct?
  24. Casting my mind back, my 1998 Xantia only sounded and flashed its indicators.
  25. As others have said, it's time to get your cambelt and tensioner pulleys changed. Mine was done 12 months ago because I was getting worried about it at 85000. A new auxilliary belt will only add peanuts to the total.
