There is an important procedure for reconnecting the battery. If it is not followed many electrical devices may not work correctly. This is the method:- Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Reset the clock and date. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

Mine is at 72.5

I can't really help - but it maybe that they are similar to Mk1 and Mk2 C5s. On those, to remove the headlights, the bumper needs removing first.

A Few Questions About Mk3 Tourer - Buying
Johndouglas replied to kaliope's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
A difficult question. But I can say that my own C5 is coming up to 9 years old and (touch wood) nothing has gone wrong. That's not to say I don't inspect the layout for leaks, or check the LDS level in the reservoir or occasionally give the height regulators a spray. Also before MOTs the front suspension legs need a wipe down. It's normal to get slight misting on them, which some MOT inspectors see as a failure. In due course the spheres will also need replacing. -
From what I've heard it seems that the Mk3 C5's suffer from valve stem troubles more than earlier models. My own vehicle which is coming on 9 years old, has never had the valve stems changed. Also if ever I get a warning with a flashing indicator, it's not until after I've driven the first mile.

A Few Questions About Mk3 Tourer - Buying
Johndouglas replied to kaliope's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Definately No. The hydraulic suspension is tried and tested. It's good for many years. I think what Steve is saying is that only the top of the range has hydraulic suspension. All the others have steel springs. -
Post it in C5 - Technical. Have a look at the pinned posts there. You may find a solution. Also look in C5 - Problems and fixes. Failing that, start a new post and we'll try and help.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Here's hoping your experience of Citroens will soon be able to help others.

How Do I Remove Locking Wheel Nuts Without The Key!
Johndouglas replied to citrophile's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
No they don't. They may be able to access the key number on CitroenUK's computer, but a replacement will be horribly expensive. Best bet is to visit a tyre depot. Many of them have a tool to remove them. On the other hand, you can buy one. See http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-SX200-Locking-Wheel-Nut-Removal-Set-2pc-1-2-Sq-Drive-Brand-New-/321185455022 -
Tailgate Weather Seal Xantia Estate.
Johndouglas replied to trafficcop1815's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xantia
Hello and welcome to the forum. Bad news that a rubber seal for the Xant isn't now stocked by Citroen dealers. A quick look on ebay shows several rear door seals for some Citroens but not one for a Xantia. Maybe try an online breaker for a half decent one.. Or see if you can make a match from products at http://www.deltarubber.co.uk/rubber_extrusions.htm?gclid=CMS8kZm0uroCFbLLtAodpGcAVw -
I've been a caravanner for many years. I've also used Citroens for the last 23 of those years. First a BXTZD, then a 2.1 Xantia and lastly a C5 - always in the estate models. Before that I used a Ford Sierra Estate and a Cortina Estate as a tow car. I recall with those, I needed spring assisters fitted. I needed to be more conscious of boot loading and nose-weight, otherwise the rear of the car tended to sag giving a nose up attitude. With the hydraulic suspension, it just pumps up to carry the additional weight.

Quote: previously granpa, had to reregister All internet forums are constantly under attack by spammers. This one is no different. We've certainly had our difficulties in the past; even to the extent of having dozens of spam postings appearing on the forum in any 24 hour period. So much so that we've probably lost valued members because rubbish postings were not quickly removed. Now we have more barriers in place. It's not even possible to enrol from certain countries of the world. I can't give you an answer as to why you were unable to log on using your previous name. Even when a member is banned from posting, their name still remains on file. There just doesn't appear to be any record of your previous name. So what happened, I'm unable to say, however your very welcome with your new one.

Tyre Pressure Monitors - Compulsory?
Johndouglas replied to seefive's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Yes - I go along with that. But I find the tyre monitor system very useful. Normally I run my rear wheels at 3bar pressure. Last week I got new tyres fitted on the back. A mile down the road from the tyre shop I got a 'dong' together with a message telling me that I had punctures in both rear wheels. I carried on home, checked the pressures only to find the fitter had inflated them to 1.9bar. -
When your vehicle is MOT tested, it's the stopping ability that is tested. Not whether or not the discs and pads are nearing the end of their life. Best thing to do - if you are able, is to take a wheel off and look for yourself. If that 28000 miles is from new, then IMHO although you may need new pads, you shouldn't need new discs.

Run Out Of Diesel And Now Not Start C5 2009 2.0 Auto
Johndouglas replied to jhonell's topic in C5 - Technical
The fact that it was soft indicates air in the system. The engine won't start until there is sufficient pressure in the fuel rail. Keep squeezing the bulb at the same time as 'your friend' spins the engine. -
Run Out Of Diesel And Now Not Start C5 2009 2.0 Auto
Johndouglas replied to jhonell's topic in C5 - Technical
If the Citroen dealer said you don't have a lift pump in your tank, look under the bonnet to see if you have a primer bulb. If you find one, squeeze it and keep squeezing until it feels solid. Here's a picture. I've marked the bulb with red marker. -
A Few Questions About Mk3 Tourer - Buying
Johndouglas replied to kaliope's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
I'll try and help with some of your questions. 1. Is the 2.0 HDI diesel on MK3 the same I had on a 2003 plate Mk1? Or perhaps they've upgraded it with some troublesome innovations? No - the engine you had on your 2003 car would be the 2ltr 8valve engine. It wouldn't have a DPF and probably didn't have a DMF. In 2005 they altered the engine to become a 16valve; they fitted a DMF and gave it an emissions system with Eolys fluid and a DPF. Both engines are regarded as being long-lived and trouble-free, with many people preferring the old 8valve. Both the DPF and the DMF can be removed from the 16valve engine without any problems arising. 2. Is there a choice on the suspension? Are all fitted with the hydroactive one? I would rather get a regular suspension Up till 2008 all C5s came with hydraulic suspension. Later cars only had Citroen suspension on the Exclusive models. All the others in the range have steel springs. I believe the DS5 only has steel springs. -
Hello and welcome to the forum. Yes - the C5s are nice lookers. What info do you want? They come in manual and auto. Have petrol and diesel engines with the diesel engines coming as 1.6; 2.0ltr and 2.2ltr. There are guys on the forum that believe the 1.6ltr engine is best avoided in the C5

A wise decision! Mine was done at 85000 around this time last year. OK Citroen saying wait till 100K. I bet if it went at 95K they wouldn't help you pay for it.
-
I would suggest the fuel filter; the air filter: the pollen filter: a change of coolant and a change of brake fluid.

That's a handy link to have bookmarked. Thanks.

C5 Knocking When Cold + Crankshaft Pulley
Johndouglas replied to Howiec's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Not saying your C5 will be the same, but my sump plug is removed with an 8mm hex. Likewise the Xsara's. Also using a new crushable washer each time it's replaced, it gives a secure joint which is easily removed at the next change. -
Hi Laura and welcome to the forum. Yes - Citroen seem to attract unfavourable comments from the motoring public - most of which probably have never owned a Citroen. However you'll meet a lot of guys on the forum who recognize a good car when they see one. Hope you enjoy your new car.

I'm another Citroen fan having had a succession of BX, Xantia and C5 as my main car and also my tow car, since 1990. I also run a 15 year old Saxo as a runabout which I've had from almost new The Saxo has been so reliable that it's not been back to a garage since I got it - other than for its MOT certificate. The rest of the family have also owned either Citroen or Peugeot for years. In the UK Citroen isn't held in very high regard by the majority of the driving public. Although never having owned one, they persist in repeating hearsay about poor quality and unreliability.

Rear Brakes - Do Not Be Afraid! Disc Replacement
Johndouglas replied to PICASSOCONVERT's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Mimimum thickness of rear discs is 12mm. On some Citroens it's possible to get the disc off without removing the calliper but not on the C5. However if you've got the two calliper bolts running, then the battle is over. Clean up the arm mating faces at the same time. My C5 maintenance record shows that I fitted new pads at 40K miles and new discs and pads at 86K miles. Two of the four set screws had to be drilled out because they lost their grip and the near side disc needed some heavy clouts before coming away.
