Xsara Loss Of All Dashboard Lights
Johndouglas replied to puygrenet555's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xsara
You mention heavy rain. Have a look at the multiplugs on the ECU. There are three on it. Could even be damp inside. Do you have an undertray fitted to your Xsara? -
Estate Tail Gate Opens All The Time! (2002 Hdi)
Johndouglas replied to voguev8's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
This fault developed on my C5 5 or 6 years ago when I was staying in Spain. Whenever I closed the driver's door the boot opened. As a temporary measure I discovered that if I pulled the connector off the solenoid to the hinged rear window, the boot no longer had the fault. Central locking was unaffected. Since I never use the opening boot window, my temporary fix is still in place. You'll need to remove the boot door inner panel. -
Did you get the bolts with them?

Have a read of this topic. It may help:- http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20573-20-hdi-110-2002-how-to-change-fuel-filter/

Noisy Aux Belt C5 Vtr+ 2.0 Hdi16 2009
Johndouglas replied to Kertrats24's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
What sort of mileage has the engine done? If it's high, the noise you're hearing might be caused by the crankshaft pulley. Briefly it's made up of two metal discs - an inner and an outer ring, both joined to each other by rubber. Overtime the rubber begins to fail allowing the two discs too much movement. -
I would suggest emailing the breaker that's selling them on ebay. They're usually clued up as to what Peugeot part will transfer to Citroen. Keep their reply so that if they turn out to be wrong (after purchase) you've got some come back.

The fact that economy mode is displayed isn't anything to worry about. If you switch off but keep the radio on, you'll get about 30 minutes of radio before the system closes down. If your battery is unhealthy it will be much quicker. After that no ignition controlled items will work - until the engine runs again. Sometimes when I switch on my C5 economy mode isn't displayed, but at other times it is, usually after I haven't used the car for a couple of days. AFAIK economy mode can't be disabled - better just to learn to live with it.

Maybe this is the one:- http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20299-door-lock/

Citroen dealers use a diagnostic system called Lexia, which costs hundreds of pounds, however it's possible to buy a Chinese cloned copy for around £100. Several are advertised on ebay. To get it to work successfully you also a need a laptop which runs on XP.

Xsara Loss Of All Dashboard Lights

Look at the maxi fuses. They're in the engine fuse box on the passenger side wing. You'll probably find they're under the main fuse board. -
Sluggish Starter, Dim Lights When Indicating
Johndouglas replied to xantiagreen's topic in Technical Section
If the indicator lights are dim with the engine running, in addition to checking the battery before starting, also check it a few minutes after starting. As Paul said, it should be 12.5/12.7, and with the engine running around 14.5 -
Currently the rear screen wiper isn't tested.

C5 Estate Door Lock Does Not Open
Johndouglas replied to billc504's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Thanks for getting back and telling us the result. Not everyone does that.. About the washer pump. Are you saying that whether you switch the front or the back, the water always goes to the front? If so, I would suggest a change of pump. The system uses the same pump for front and back and the pump drives both ways. ECP do them for around a tenner. Unfortunately to fit, it means the bumper needs releasing. -
Hello and welcome to the forum. We'll try and help you with your new C5. But the wife - we'll have to leave that to others... :D Yes - check the fuse for the fan. Also there's a heater control module resistor down by the pedals which sometimes gives trouble. Often you can get used ones on ebay. The "diesel additive" warning shouldn't be ignored because the Eolys is required to be there so that the correct amount is injected into the fuel tank for successful working of the particle filter system. If you ignore the warning, the particle filter will quickly block and the engine will go into limp mode. Eolys fluid unfortunately is very expensive and the tank takes around 5 litres. Similar fluid can be found on ebay. Google "Pat fluid". There is an alternative to refilling the system with Eolys. That is to have the particle filter removed from the car. It isn't actually removed. The filter box is opened and the core is drilled or knocked out - and then the box is replaced. But then the car's ECU needs to be modified so that the engine doesn't expect to regenerate.

Welcome to the forum. As far as I know, Citroen only ever fitted Bosch brakes on the front of the C5. Unlike our one of our other cars, a Xsara. On that they can be either Bosch or Lucas, and then in two different diameters. If you are looking for caliper parts, there's either ECP or http://www.biggred.co.uk/index.php

Xsara Loss Of All Dashboard Lights
Johndouglas replied to puygrenet555's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xsara
For starters - check the voltage of your battery. Also check the earth and positive connections. -
I think it was on this forum about a year ago that someone had the same problem. A good squirt of WD40 into the rear door lock cured the fault.
-
Making a guess - I'd say it would be OK. When I first got my C5, when I needed to disconnect the battery I never did the lines "Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system". It didn't seem to have any ill effects.

My C5 although just a few months younger than yours works in a quite different manner. If one of the tyres is down, I get a bleep followed by a diagram of the car with the offending corner flashing - but not until I've driven about half a mile. Then I don't get the warning again until after the ignition has been turned off. Usually the tyre needs maybe 4lbs to stop the warnings. I always find I can switch the tyres around from side to side or back to front without causing the system to wobble. The only time it gets upset is when I use the spare. My spare is a second hand alloy wheel which also has a sensor fitted, but when I use it, after driving a bit, I get a message telling me the tyre pressures are not being monitored. Yes - you're right. Replacement sensors are quite expensive but can be bought online. However, not only do they need to be 'introduced' by Lexia, but they need additional treatment. Something about an 'exciter' - if I've got that right. If you decide the whole business is too much trouble, you can ditch the sensors, get rubber valves fitted and get the system disabled by Lexia.

There are several past topics on the forum where it's printed, but here it is again:- CORRECT REBOOT PROCEDURE FOR BSI Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Reset the clock and date. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

Full Inspection And Service (Faults)
Johndouglas replied to xantiagreen's topic in Technical Section
If you've got some DIY skills and a decent tool kit, it's fairly easy to change discs and pads. If you have GSF or Eurocarparts near, you can order online with a good discount, then collect. I've used both makes that ECP do and they are equally good. I believe a Xantia battery should be an 027 but check the output of the alternator with and without the engine running. Again, GSF and ECP do good discounts on online batteries. GSF used to do replacement spheres but I don't know about now. Google for replacements but expect to pay around 28 quid each. Most important that you get the correct fitment for your car. -
The BSI controls all manner of electrical gismos on the car. If or when one of them malfunctions, going through the battery disconnect in the proper way will reset the BSI. In the past I've used it to correct the window opening and closing and also the non-working of the power steering.
