  1. I would like to see what coastline taxis thinks since he has a lot of experience. Does the car run ok once it has started ?
  2. Welcome to the forum.
  3. If the engine turns over fast (more than about 300 rpm) then the earth connections are probably ok and the wiring is probably ok. So if fuel is in and the engine turns over then a diesel should run. Unless maybe there is low compression in the cylinders or maybe the fuel / air ratio is wrong (injector or air flow meter or temperature sensor fault ?). Have you tried the list of members who will help with a diagnostic check ?
  4. Welcome to the forum. The parts diagrams do not seem to show the O-ring seals separately to the pipes. However, you could try a Citroen dealer to see if they sell them or you could try somewhere like Machine Mart/Toolstation/Screwfix who sell sets of O-rings and see if one is the same size as the original. For example http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht314-universal-o-ring-set There are cases on the new C5 steering rack leaking oil which has turned out to be the column input shaft top seal that has leaked, but was first thought to be a pipe seal. In these cases a replacement rack was needed.
  5. From a previous post your car is a 2002 2.0 hdi 110 bhp. A look on eurocarparts shows a new tank pump/level sender is from £82 to £152 (but you should check using your car reg). Changing it should not be difficult since it is accessed from under the rear seat by removing a round plastic cover, remove the electrical connector and fuel pipes, note any location markings, undo the retaining ring and then lift it out. Refitting should be a reverse. It may pay to check the fuel filter is not full of metal bits from the tank pump.
  6. I had a quick look on autotrader and another site - there was a 1.6 hdi C3 with accident damage for £995 and the next was about £1900 from Evans Hallshaw but had high miles, plus this company will not reduce its price if you ask and for more than 3 months warranty you have to pay extra and there may be other charges (our experience when thinking of buying a car from them - it turned out to be more expensive than the price on the windscreen). If it does not need to be a C3, you will get a decent diesel C5 for less than £1500.
  7. Welcome to the forum. The 1.6 hdi C3 did not come out until 2005, up to then there was only the 1.4 hdi diesel engine. Your chance of finding a 1.6 hdi for £1500 is very low unless it had a mega mileage or needed a new turbo or other expensive repairs. You should get a 1.4 hdi or 1.4 petrol. I have moved your post in to a subsection since ones outside of one do not show after a few days and may be difficult to find.
  8. Welcome to the forum. For the year that you are looking, the 2.0 hdi engine should be 160 bhp and to have the hydractive suspension it will need to be an exclusive model since the VTR / VTR nav ones have steel coil springs and shock absorbers. 1. The 2.0 hdi is not known on this forum as having turbo problems, unlike the 1.6 hdi. Similarly, there are not many reports of problems with the dual mass flywheel on any models of C5. The one problem that seems to be common on the C5 (X7) is leaking of seals on the steering rack which require it to be replaced. Have a look at the C5 Technical section Common problems pinned post. 2. If you want an exclusive model, it will have an electric handbrake so this will affect work on the rear brakes, possibly needing diagnostic equipment. I can not remember any comments on the electric handbrake so probably it works ok. In the UK the exclusive model costs a lot more than the VTR / VTR nav models and as a result there are not many available to buy in the used market. 3. This would have been an opinion of a member which in the future may or may not happen. Members on the forum do not have any connection with Citroen as far as I know and most, if not all, do not have any connection with the motor trade. 4. In the UK it is not legal to remove the exhaust FAP and catalyst and if this happened the car would not pass the annual MOT test and it would not be covered by insurance. Since this comes from EU rules this should also apply across Europe. This forum can not recommend to remove the FAP and catalyst. 5. Whether you need an automatic gearbox or manual depends on your circumstances, but a manual ought to cost less to mantain over the life of the car and less in fuel costs. If you do not need an auto gearbox then it is probably best not to get one.
  9. The cars that we have had with a steel spare wheel, had bolts with a taper section which holds the steel wheel as well as the washer section that holds the alloy wheel.
  10. Welcome to the forum. A quick look in the handbook shows there may be a fault so it needs looking at, especially if the car is from a garage and has a warranty. This is copied from the section on the automatic gearbox: Manual operation ï† Select position M for sequential changing of the four gears. Push the lever towards the + sign to change up a gear. ï† Pull the lever towards the - sign to change down a gear. It is only possible to change from one gear to another if the vehicle speed and engine speed permit; otherwise, the gearbox will operate temporarily in auto matic mode. D disappears and the gears engaged appear in succession on the instrument panel. If the engine speed is too low or too high, the gear selected fl ashes for a few seconds, then the actual gear engaged is displayed. It is possible to change from position D (automatic) to position M (manual) at any time. When the vehicle is stationary or moving very slowly, the gearbox selects gear M1 automatically. The sport and snow programmes do not operate in manual mode.
  11. 'get a full size [blade ?] alloy they do fit in the wheelwell' this is good advice. A quick look on ebay has a few for sale, so about £50 upwards should be enough - such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C3-Picasso-Ds3-16-Set-Of-4-Alloys-Tyres-Wheel-Bolts-Caps-Lock-Kit-LOOK-/231261141372?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item35d83cf97c where the seller will sell them singly - but depends on the alloys you have for the wheel style.
  12. Welcome to the forum. The tyre size is correct from a quick look at the parts diagrams and load and speed rating is 95M. Wheel size is 3.5 J15 4-15. Your Citroen dealer will sell you one as well as a jack if you do not have one.
  13. I would still consider asking another member via a private message if they are able help with diagnostics. The worst that can happen is you will get a polite no. On the diagnostic post on the C5 section the nearest member appears to be in Bedfordshire http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20345-diagnostic-help/ The easiest way to send a message is to move the mouse cursor over the member's name and then click on send message. From the previous posts the engine code is RHT = DW10ATED4 with particle filter, 2.0 hdi, 16 valve, 5 speed manual gearbox, max power 79 kW (106 bhp), max torque 270 Nm, registered June 2003.
  14. Low cost ones are usually just a fault code reader that will read and delete codes that cause the engine management light to come on for around £20 to £30. If you pay a bit more you will get one that will also read some live data such this one from Gendan http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_GCR25.html for £60. We have one of these and it works ok. If you want to do any more on a Citroen then you will need to consider a Lexia copy to put on a lap top for around £100 from ebay or such as easy diagnostics http://www.easydiagnostics.co.uk/#/shop/4584778814/citroen-peugeot-lexia-3-evolution-interface/8000814
  15. If not done already, you could join the Picasso forum and post the same question or put a link on it to here. There is a link to the Picasso forum on the home page or you could use this one http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/
  16. There is a procedure on the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned post on disconnecting/reconnecting the battery since if it is done quickly it can result in odd electrical problems.
  17. For those like myself who know nothing about the ECO system I had a quick look in the new C4 Picasso handbook on the service.citroen site (documentation de bord, select language and then the car ). The ECO system is the STOP / START system which should reduce fuel use in stop/start town driving conditions. Depending on the gearbox type, when going slow/in neutral/clutch pedal released/stopped, the engine will stop unless there is a demand that needs the engine to run, such as needing to keep a comfortable temperature in the cabin, demisting is being used, where the engine is needed to maintain a control and it lists battery charging, engine temperature, braking assistance, ambient temperature. There are other cases where the engine will not stop (or will automatically start again except for 6 mph case - here it starts if it goes above 15 mph) - a driver's door open(s), driver's seat belt not fastened (is undone), since starting the engine the car has not reached 6 mph, the electric parking brake is being used. The engine will start again if the clutch pedal is pressed/gearbox taken out of neutral/put in reverse - depending on the type of gearbox. Now applying this to the original post and the ECO not working, possibly the battery voltage has dropped a bit so it needs charging, I am not sure about the particular car but normally the air con compressor is driven by a belt from the engine crankshaft pulley and not electrically - so if the air con is wanted then the engine must run. Without the air con but just running the cabin fan, probably would let the ECO system work unless the battery voltage dropped. If you have a look under the bonnet you should be able to see the air con compressor and if it is driven from the engine. So it could be in hot weather you have to accept the ECO system will not work if you want to run the air con.
  18. It can not be turned off but maybe a dealer (or Lexia owner) can adjust it so it takes longer. The time it takes to cut in depends on how well the battery is charged. Try charging the battery up and see if it lasts longer. One of our neighbours left their VW radio on by mistake and the next day the battery was flat - so it can happen.
  19. The self indexing of the passenger mirror comes with the parking assistance pack which was available on the mark 1 and 2 C5s (as well as C4). It also includes the auto folding door mirrors and auto rear view mirror and rear parking sensors plus on the mark 2 front parking sensors. On the mark 1 it was standard on the exclusive and on the mark 2 standard on the exclusive, an option on the VTR and VTX.
  20. Citroen will sell you one. The seat base cushion is listed in the parts and includes its cover. To get the right part no. needs your VIN but a quick check indicates a new one may be around £700. On our first C4 (2008) and C3 (2003) bits of foam from the seat would appear on the floor next to the door and the seat base cushion at the door edge seemed to be losing its padding. I would imagine that if a large person used the car then the seat bases would not last long. I also remember posts on the C5 seat frames breaking.
  21. I bought that tool last year but so far have not used it. It seems to be made to order since it still smelt of paint. However, it fits the spheres, is made well enough and at the price probably can not be beaten. It also arrived in a couple of days. It is possible though the tool may not be needed - if the strut top nut is removed after it is released from the lower suspension, it may simply slide down out of the top part/bracket which can be left in place. This is in the Haynes manual if just replacing the suspension strut.
  22. I can not remember anyone saying on here their car cut out when having dpf problems, usually it is something like anti pollution fault messages. So I would make a big thing of this at the dealer to make sure they look at it since it is a safety problem. You will need to contact your dealer service department for it to be looked at, do not bother with the sales people, and if they are as good as my local dealer they will be happy to help you. Just a question on the warning message - did it say dpf or diesel filter since if diesel filter it would be the fuel filter which will have a frequency of replacement possibly every 20 or 40k miles. If the fuel filter did block the fuel pressure could be low after it which may then cause the car to cut out. In Citroen's literature they use FAP for the exhaust particulate filter (dpf), but I do not know what is used in the warning messages.
  23. I would expect there to be no problems within 2 weeks of buying the car, so definately mention it to the dealer.
  24. So, all sorted, now you can enjoy your car and hopefully there will be no more problems. I have now included this on the C5 Common Problems post with a link to the repair post.
  25. There is an initialisation procedure that may help: ESSENTIAL : The time between the different initialisation stages is 5 seconds, the operator should be aware of the entire procedure.CAUTION : If the time between the different initialisation stages is more than 5 seconds, then the initialisation procedure should be restarted from the beginning.1. Applies toPerform an initialisation procedure in the following cases :Position zero "0" of the rotary button does not correspond to position zero of the reduction motor (roof closed position)The sunroof does not open using the rotary buttonThe sunroof does not close, because of the anti-pinchCAUTION : The battery voltage should be higher than 13 volts (keep the engine running).2. Re-initialisation procedure (sunroof reduction motor initialised)Place the rotary button on position zero "0".Wait for the sunroof to fully close or stop.2.1. 1st case : The sunroof moves rearwards (anti-pinch)Perform the following operations :Wait 5 seconds, after it has stopped moving rearwardsPress on the rotary button until the sunroof closesMaintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary button2.2. 2nd case : The sunroof stops (open position)Perform the following operations :Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes (to trigger the reduction motor relay)Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary button2.3.
