Newbie C5 2004 2.2 Hdi Auto Essex & Queries
paul.h replied to doro708's topic in New Member Introduction
You could try a message to Arak81, he is in the London area and has used a few garages to sort problems on his C4. However, if you do your own maintenance the C5 is not difficult to look after and on one of the C5 sections there are a couple of pinned topics to help with cleaning the brakes which needs doing every year or so. There is also a pinned topic of common problems to have a look at. -
Wax/polish - Best One To Hide Scratches

Your only previous post I could find is post 6 on this topic. If you remove the excess new paint with thinners, does this not also remove the old paint or is there a technique to it ? -

You will find the Haynes manual does not cover the 2.2 hdi engine, your 136 bhp one or the later 173 bhp one. However, it covers the rest of the car. If you want a manual, the Citroen service box has the workshop procedures, wiring and parts diagrams and comes on 3 dvds from such as ebay. It is also available as a download and on the C8 section there is a link for this in a post by Simple. If you need to jack the car up the suspension should first be raised to max height and then switched off, otherwise suspension problems can occur. Also do not go underneath it without using axle stands since if a height sensor is caught the suspension can quickly drop to a very low level. -
Welcome to the forum. On the C5 Technical section there is a pinned topic of Common Problems to check on your new car. On the C5 (X7) a leaking steering rack and the front wipers not working are common and both are expensive to fix, so worth checking if you have a warranty. In the UK, until it became compulsory for the daylight running lights to be on, they required a diagnostic using dealer type equipment (Lexia) to activate them. The bulbs are also expensive to replace at maybe about £40 so some have replaced them with led ones and there is a topic on this. On the 1.6 hdi you need to ensure the oil/filter changes are carried out as required (possibly 12k miles or 1 year) using the correct oil to help the turbo last.

You could also try the remote keys with the car parked elsewhere in case there is radio interference from something. Resyncing the remotes after replacing the remote battery is covered in the handbook (and Haynes) in case you forget how to do it. -
The Citroen part no. could be 6554F1, if you can not get a used part I would imagine a new one is not that expensive from a dealer.

Good to see your car is still going strong, what was the advisory ? Arak81 seems to have sorted the P0238 fault, after trying new solenoid valves which did not help, it seems there was a wiring fault that has been fixed by a garage.

Turbo Solenoid Valve For Citroen C4 1.6Hdi - P0238

Fingers crossed the problem is now fixed and you do not have any more whilst you keep the car. -
I would check all the fuses and maxi fuses first before even thinking about the BSI.

There is a list of paint codes here, EVL is down as platinum grey http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?make=Citroen&con=k&year=2016&rows=50 If you only need a small touch up paint these are available from a Citroen dealer and include the colour and laquer paints. Use your car VIN to get the correct colour, as well as the paint code. Welcome to the forum. There may be nothing wrong with the car. You need to plug in a code reader that gives live engine data to see what temperature the coolant sensor is giving to see if it is normal. Should be ambient temperature before starting the car in the morning and then around 90 to 96°C once warmed up. The fan should cut in about 96°C but also it should run if the air con is on. Faulty sensors tend to go to max temp soon after starting the engine.

Larger diameter screws or bolts and nuts could be used to fasten the air filter lid, probably a previous owner has tightened the original screws too much and stripped the plastic threads in the box. I do not know if this would affect the running but since it is easy enough to fix it should be done to prevent dirty air entering the engine. A search came up with P1153 Bank 2 Fuel control shifted lean. MM6LP - Throttle stop learning. Malfunction - so it may be related to the TPS problem or the lambda sensor. You should also check the battery voltage since a low voltage sometimes gives odd electrical problems on Citroens (as well as other makes). Should be about 12.7 volts before the engine is started and then about 14.4 volts once running. If your engine is the hpi version then it has some specific fault codes with definitions that differ from generic ones. This topic has some listed and includes some you are having http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/6461-02-sensor/

Turbo Solenoid Valve For Citroen C4 1.6Hdi - P0238
paul.h replied to arak81's topic in C4 - Technical
I would check all the hoses connecting the various sensors for any splits/holes, particularly where they connect to the sensors. If there are any, this could reduce the vacuum in the system and possibly give the fault. First check the one to the solenoid valve since this has been disturbed a few times now. Internet searches suggest trying to fix P0238 is not easy. -
Welcome to the forum. I have found the C4 is a good reliable car. For the 1.6 hdi the oil/filter change frequency is 12k miles or 1 year if sooner and the correct oil should be used, otherwise this engine has a reputation for early turbo failure. If it has stop/start there have been a couple of topics on here where 1 had an early battery failure and another where the starter/alternator failed early - both are expensive items to replace but may be covered by the Citroen 3 year (from new) warranty which I would expect has been provided with your car. You will get used to the gear change.

Wax/polish - Best One To Hide Scratches
paul.h replied to Azza's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Citroen still sell the small touch up paints, about the size of a finger and as you say, the brush is a bit large for a small scratch and I end up with a bit too much paint or laquer on so it is then proud of the scratch/chip being covered. With metallic paints the shade depends a bit on how thick the paint is applied - applying thin layers will be lighter than a thick layer. Nail varnish remover is usually acetone so I do not know how much success you would have using this to thin the paint. -
Wax/polish - Best One To Hide Scratches
paul.h replied to Azza's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Welcome to the forum. Many cars now have a laquer layer over the colour coat so using a cutting compound would not help. They also all seem to use a white primer so any scratches show up if they go through the colour coat. -
Welcome to the forum. Possibly the rear height sensor is sticking or one of the rear strut seals is leaking so the pressure can not be maintained. You could also check the level in the lds tank - with the suspension on the low setting the fluid should just cover the bottom of the tank filling neck strainer. Do not go under the car without using axle stands to support the body since if a height sensor is caught the suspension can quickly drop the car to a low level.

Welcome to the forum. Some info from the Technical section pinned Common Problems topic: 10. The air conditioning only gives cold air at one side or does not cool much. The evaporator matrix cooling the air on the C5 is long and if the amount of refrigerant is low then there will not be enough to cool all the matrix for both sides of the cabin. First step should be a regass then if that does not work and there are no leaks then look at replacing the air flap control motors. A regass may be about £50, a flap new motor about £60. It could also be damage to the air flap shaft motor fitting - see this post http://www.citroen-o...c5-2002-aircon/ . I had to have both C5s regassed when about 7 years old, on the second one there was a printout that showed there was only 93 g of refrigerant left and that 525 g were put back in yet the air con was working and gas could be heard going through the pressure control valve but the air was not cooling much. Also have a look at this topic for a possible fix to a broken heater flap connection http://www.citroen-o...or-air-bag-ecu/ Have a look at this topic for alternative ways to fix the broken flap connection by extending the motor spindle using one from another motor or buying a motor already with an extended spindle http://www.citroen-o...ulation-aircon/ Have a look at this topic for a case where a new comms 2000 unit fixed the manual air con not working http://www.citroen-o...-manual-aircon/ In the May 2015 Car Mechanics magazine there is an excellent article by Rob Marshall where he dismantles a 2004 to 2008 C5 heating system with climate control to replace broken heater flaps (the shaft on one had broken completely and the other was breaking). This involves removing the dash and then the heater unit from the car and then fitting new flaps from a dealer (6480E3 for dual zone and 6480E4 for mono system, both £58.53). There are 63 photos showing all the steps.

When the engine management light comes on a fault code is stored on the ecu and stays there until it is erased by a code reader, even if the light goes out. The faut code will give a good indication of what the car thinks is wrong. If you do not have a code reader to find out what the fault is you can pay a garage to do this or buy one for less. One that gives some engine live data is more useful than a low cost one without, for example http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html The actual fault could be anything that affects the exhaust emissions.

This may be a common problem and the following has been copied from a post by ancell on the Caravan talk forum: Our tow car of two years Citroen C4 Picasso Grand 2014 2 litre diesel 30000 miles from new has been a great vehicle till yesterday! Off shopping gets half a mile from home suddenly a red warning appears charging fault Stop Immediately! Pulled off lifted the bonnet to find destroyed fan belt and disintegrated belt tensioner! Kept an eye on the engine temperature as motored back home and called RAC for uplift to dealer. Just been informed by Citroen garage "its a well known fault we will be fitting the upgraded replacement tensioner" Worth a phone call perhaps if you have this model If it had happened on sunday we would have got caught towing on our 200 mile trip home from the highlands in gale force winds. That would have been a whole different story. Turbo Solenoid Valve For Citroen C4 1.6Hdi - P0238
paul.h replied to arak81's topic in C4 - Technical
I do not know about the part numbers but maybe the connecting pipe is not in good condition and has a split or hole in it. You could try the old solenoid to see if it goes back to the previous frequency of the fault. -
Welcome to the forum. Are you trying to fit a standard Citroen C5 part to the fascia or a part from elsewhere ? If a C5 part then I would think a Citroen dealer would be able to provide a new fascia rather than sourcing elsewhere. If not a C5 part then without knowing what or the size of what you are trying to fit it is not possible to give much help.

Welcome to the forum. Nearest I can think of is a seat belt not fastened warning. Try fastening all the seat belts to see if it goes. If not this then you may need to post a photo of it.

Something to be aware of, you should always use axle stands if you go under the car since if a height adjuster is caught the car could drop to a very low level quickly. I would not put any stop leak fluid in the lds tank since it is also used for the suspension which has small diameter holes in the various parts. The fluids could also be incompatible with the seals in the system and result in leaks. If the fluid then needed to be changed it is about £12 a litre and there are about 5 litres. This topic has some info on lifting the car and the topic on the tank that split http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/23546-c5-lifting-on-two-post-garage-lift/?hl=exploding+tank The answers to some of your questions on the steering rack can be found in the linked posts. A leaking input shaft seal of the rack may be the result of the input shaft rusting and in one post from Parkesie there is a picture of this - it may also be possible to see this from under the car or by removing the shaft to body seal.

Vehicle: Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 Hdi 90 Exclusive (2016)

Welcome to the forum. I did not realise the Xsara Picasso was still being made, or is it a C4 or C3 Picasso ?
