  1. If you disconnect the battery you do not need a code for the radio if it is the original Citroen one.

    Heat

This is in the Common Problems topic plus somewhere I had posted when our 2003 C3 1.4 petrol high temp warning was given - there was nothing wrong and it may have been a glitch that happened twice with a year between but later when the timing belt was replaced I also replaced the thermostat, anti freeze and coolant pump and it did not happen again. 30. High temperature warnings. This topic by Skyman fixed the problem using a dealer supplied temp sensor after trying a low cost ebay one which did not work http://www.citroen-o...-by-new-sensor/ This occurred on our 2010 C3 1.4 VTI 96 bhp. A check on live data showed the engine coolant temperature was normal yet the high temperature warning was lit and the engine fan was running continually. A visit to the Citroen dealer for a new temperature sensor however brought up that Citroen had just issued a recall for faulty temperature sensors on the EP engines so it would be fixed without cost to ourselves. This is done by replacing the temperature sensor with a new one or as in our case where the temperature sensor is not removeable from the thermostat housing, the housing bleed screw is removed and the temperature sensor is put in its place along with a short wiring loom.
  3. For a young driver with no previous car insurance and only recently passed the driving test, then I would go on-line and get some insurance quotes before deciding on the car and engine size. You may find you can not get insurance for a larger engine or it would be too expensive. If possible, you may also consider lessons and taking the driving test in a manual car. If you need a registration plate for the quotes you could use ones for cars that you are considering that are for sale in the ads. I have never had an auto gearbox but if they go wrong can be expensive. Some are also not full auto ones so I do not know if this is affected by only having an auto driving licence.
  4. Welcome to the forum. Does it need to be an auto and what engine size do you want, petrol or diesel ? There are some common problems here to check http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20273-common-problems-rev-27102015/ but on a 10 to 13 year old car you really need to buy it on condition and make sure everything works since a minor problem could cost more than the car is worth. Citroen handbooks from about 2007 can be read/copied/printed on-line. Some features may not apply to older ones but it is still worth looking to get an idea about the car and how it works http://service.citroen.com/ddb/
  5. There does not seem to be much difference in the 2 code readers, the dearer one gives graphs ot the values which may help you on live data seeing how a value changes but you can get that by watching the value itself. However, for £16 extra it is probably worth it. P0571 Cruise Control/Brake Switch A Circuit Malfunction - possibly the brake pedal switch or its connector/wiring are faulty. A search on P1160/1161 suggest you should check the ecu connectors for water ingress/corrosion before doing anything else. You could also check the throttle body is clean internally. Disconnect the battery first before checking the ecu but do not do it too quickly to avoid possible electrical problems. Have a check in your handbook but I have used the following procedure on our Citroens: 11. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure. If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3: - remove the ignition key from the car - open the bonnet - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down - disconnect the battery negative terminal When reconnecting - ignition key out of the car - reconnect the battery - wait a few minutes - insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute - turn the key to the first position and wait a minute - turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute - start the engine - take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch - reset the clock (and radio on the C3). In the handbook for the 2015 C4 it says to wait at least 2 minutes after switching off the ignition before disconnecting the battery and when reconnecting, to wait at least a minute after switching on the ignition before starting the engine.
  6. This is from the Haynes manual: 1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal (I am not sure if this is really needed) 2. Using a small screwdriver, carefully release the panel surround from the retaining clips on each side, then remove the surround from the instrument panel. The photos show the screwdriver being inserted behind the end of the surround to lever it out from the clips. A bit of card against the screwdriver may avoid damaging the dash. 3. Undo the screw located at each end of the panel and withdraw the panel from the fascia. 4. Disconnect the wiring connectors and remove the panel from the fascia - this may not be needed to just replace the failed bulbs which can be removed by twisting with long nosed pliers and then pulling out of the bulb holders. It does not give the size or wattage of the bulbs so you may need to remove one to find out.
  7. There is some Lexia info here, mostly by Simple http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/23278-lexia-diagbox-pp2000-topics-1822016/
  8. The parts diagrams do not show a separate heating element but only the cushion/cover. However, on a Saab I had the driver's seat heater stopped working so I removed the cover and found it was a thermostat in the element that had failed. I replaced this with an electrical connector and just relied on the on/off switch to turn the heater off once I was warm enough. So it could be worth taking the cover off to see if there is a problem you could fix. If you use any wire in the seat make sure it is flexible and long lasting since if it breaks it could give a hot spot and burn a hole in your trousers. There is a bit of info here and you may be able to get a universal heater element to fit http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/How-to-Replace-the-Heated-Element-in-Your-Seats-/10000000177591798/g.html
  9. Welcome to the forum. You will find that Citroen radios are coded to the car on which they were originally installed and will not work properly on another car unless they are coded to the new car. So if you get a used one from ebay it will need coding to your car and it might also need setting up to work with any accessories on your car - so you may need to visit a Citroen dealer for this diagnostic work.
  10. If the engine management light comes on the fault code is stored until it is deleted using a reader, even if the light goes off and the fault clears. Please let us know what the local garage finds and make sure you note down the code(s) before it is deleted.
  11. Check the wiring around the fan to try and find the relay. You could also prove the fan by taking a 12 volt supply direct to it.
  12. You need to use a fault code reader which plugs in to the EOBD 16 pin socket. I do not know where it is on the C8 but often on Citroens it is on the cabin fuse box. It is cheaper to buy your own reader than pay a garage to do a diagnostic check. This one from Gendan also gives some live data as well as the engine fault codes https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html
  13. Since the light came on there will be a stored fault code which you need to read to see what is wrong. It could be a crank shaft or cam shaft sensor or something else but to start replacing parts could cost a lot before you find any faulty ones without reading the fault code.
  14. Welcome to the forum. In the parts diagrams it looks as if the master and slave cylinders come as a complete part (if you could get one). This used one on ebay may be right but it looks as if the slave cylinder has been cut off but you would need to check with the seller and that it is the right part. Also check if it is in good condition. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-Xantia-1998-2-0-8v-HDi-Clutch-Master-/331884641974?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 In the future I will move this topic to the Xantia section.
  15. Is it the engine radiator fan that is not running or the cabin blower ? The air con should not work if both of these are not working. Also if the engine temperature is high the air con should again not work. If it is the engine fan then it could be a relay that needs replacing rather than the fan and this may be somewhere near the fan or on the fan surround.
  16. The slight knocking could be an anti roll bar drop link that needs replacing, should be easy enough to do and not cost much but will be checked as part of the MOT. On the trip computer, if it is not changing this could be it needs resetting by holding in the button on the end of the wiper stalk since once it reaches about 6200 miles it does not go any higher - this equates to 9999 km and to go higher would need another digit.
  17. Welcome to the forum. You may find the steel spare recommended by Citroen is smaller diameter but the tyre to go on it will not be as low a profile as on the alloy, so the overall wheel/tyre diameter is the same. On a door or door pillar will be a sticker with the tyre sizes and pressures - it may give the size of spare. You can also look at the Citroen parts diagrams for the options. Register on service.citroen as an other professional non emergency services and as a member of the Citroen Owners Club. You may need to select your language. Once on the parts diagrams use your VIN (VIS) top left to find your car. http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres Our C4 only had the sealant so not relying on this we had to buy a spare wheel/tyre and the jack, plastic tool to pull off the wheel bolt chrome plastic caps, the plastic tray to hold the jack in the spare wheel, wheel bolt brace. I also put some heat shrink sleeving on the jack handle since the end can easily catch the sill and take the paint off.
  18. If using auto then this will take control of the various flaps/blower speed/compressor rather than letting you do it - so I think you need it out of auto and then try the eco and recirc buttons. You could also check the battery voltage before starting the engine since if low this can give odd electrical faults - it should be about 12.5 volts.
  19. Greasing the pinion has been suggested on here as a preventative measure for anyone with a C5 (X7) without waiting for the seal to fail since the pinion can rust. Parkesie has been kind enough to post a picture of the rust on his old steering rack and links can be found in this topic from the C5 Common Problems topic 25. New C5 (mark 3/X7) steering rack oil leaks - at least 8 cases so far. We have 2 members jefflad and Howiec with steering rack leaks that are proving difficult to fix. Where the supply and return pipes join the rack, the seals are leaking fluid. It seems Citroen want to replace the pipes to fix this and that just replacing the O-ring seals does not work. Citroen also do not sell the seals separately. An additional 2 members, Parkesie and johnfing, have found a leak from the steering column shaft input seal on top of the steering rack, which initially was thought to be the pipe seals. This seal also is not available so replacement racks have been fitted. The column shaft has badly rusted so may be the cause of the leak - applying grease could possibly prevent this. See http://www.citroen-o...uid/#entry75684 . See also this topic for info on replacing the rack http://www.citroen-o...ent/#entry81594 There are 2 more cases here and one being caused by corrosion of the rack where the alloy oil pipes connect http://www.citroen-o...-leaking-fluid/ Have a look at this topic from C5greener for another leak point in the piping near the rack http://www.citroen-o...-steering-leak/ This topic from taximan61 for his 2011 C5 (X7) had the leaking rack and pipes repaired in Wakefield. This is the youngest C5 with a leaking rack so it is not just the early ones that leak. http://www.citroen-o...-steering-leak/
  20. Possibly there is a problem with the wiring through the steering column so the steering angle sensor is giving a bad reading. You could also check the abs sensors/wiring.
  21. Thanks for this topic, I will link to it on the Common Problems one about the leaking steering racks. This is the youngest one so far, most leaks have been on ones 2008 or 2009, so it looks as if Citroen have not bothered finding a fix.
  22. Possibly the recycle flap is stuck, or it is broken or the motor that moves it has a problem. To get to the motor I think it is high up above the driver's footwell on the inlet ducting.
  23. The lds does not have a low level warning. If the rear gaiters are wet then probably the rear struts need replacing. I had to do this on our C5 after first trying just replacing the gaiter but it continued to leak, just a few drops a day but after living with it for a year I had it replaced. Dealer time is about 1 hour so labour is not too expensive but in 2013 it cost about £240 including the parts to replace one rear strut.
  24. Welcome to the forum.
  25. Welcome to the forum. You could also check the lds fluid level is correct, if not already done. It should be just covering the bottom of the tank filling neck filter when the suspension is on the lowest setting.
