New Member Saying Hello To All In Forums
paul.h replied to Joe18425's topic in New Member Introduction
Welcome to the forum. Do you have a Citroen car/van and if so what is it ? -
It seems to be a common problem, particularly the wires for the high level brake light and the washer pipe. There is a pinned topic on Common problems in the C5 Technical section that is worth a look. Another one is leaking steering rack oil seals. I suspect most people would just connect in a new length of wire, maybe soldering it, rather than a new loom.

New Shape Dispatch Van Loose Panel, Help Please :)
paul.h replied to Ady1234's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Welcome to the forum. Uploading pictures on to this site does not seem to be working so they can be put on another site such as photobucket and then a link put on here to them. Without a picture it is a bit difficult to imagine what it could be. -
You have checked the things that put the light on, the handbrake switch and the fluid level so unless the abs light is also on, I do not know what else could be wrong. If you have a diagnostic check it is probably best done using Citroen's equipment since others may not be able to check everything.

On the hoist the rear wheels would not have been moving so probably it may be nothing to do with the rear brakes. I am struggling to think of anything else that could make a rubbing noise when the front wheels turn. I did think of the speedo but that is electronic and not cable driven. Maybe some other people will come up with a few ideas.

If the engine management light is on the engine may be in limp mode which will limit the performance so emissions are not too high. On the 2.2 hdi 136 bhp engine there is a swirl flap actuator at the gearbox end of the cylinder head. On the C5 the plastic cup on the arm often breaks so it comes off the ball of the pivot. If it is not broken, get somebody to start the engine and check the arm moves so you know the actuator is ok - Citroen call it a diaphragm, part no. 036394 (check this using your VIN) and the diaphragm in it can also fail. This is in the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned topic but on the C5 it has a different part no: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11. C5 2.2 hdi 136 hp only, swirl plate diaphragm actuator ball cup breaks. Vacuum leak/turbo fault codes (any engine). Located at the left end of the cylinder head. Symptoms may be loss of acceleration, engine management light, increased fuel economy. The plastic ball cup may be replaced on its own (10 mins) or the complete actuator replaced (several hours DIY), about £20 but the cup is not available separately. This topic has a few notes on how to replace the part http://www.citroen-o...ragm#entry40936 There is a diy fix here if not able or want to get the dealer part http://www.citroen-o...-to/#entry82945 I read in Car Mechanics a case where the actuator had a vacuum leak which resulted in the engine management light and limp mode and fault codes for over boost and turbo regulation fault. The slow loss of vacuum reduced it also to the turbo wastegate so turbo boost level dropped, the ecu then increased the boost control duty cycle which then deactivated the swirl control increasing the vacuum boost and tripping the EML/limp mode. These fault codes have also been reported here and it turned out to be a split in the vacuum pipe to the egr valve actuator - so any cause of a vacuum leak should be looked for before touching the turbo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At around 80k miles the dpf needs to be serviced (cleaned/replaced) and the eolys fluid topped up - has this been done ? If not and the dpf is not working it could block up with soot and limit performance but you may get warning messages if this happened.

To check if there is a bonnet switch, leave it open and see if the alarm goes off. On our C5 the bonnet switch is near the front to one side. When the battery in our C5 goes flat it does not set off the alarm so I suspect a battery drain would not be the problem.
-
The engine off voltage seems normal but with the engine running the battery voltage would normally be about 14.2 volts but with a stop/start car I am not sure if it would be different. If your alternator was not working then the battery would likely go flat quickly. So if these are both ok then possibly a sensor is faulty but to check these a dealer visit may be needed. A recent C3 topic on stop/start found there is a second battery under the front passenger seat so you could have a look and check its voltage.

When on the hoist could the noise still be heard ? Also is your car left hand drive with you using km/h ? When you say the brakes have been checked - have the pads been removed and everything cleaned ? Why I mentioned the back brakes is they will be connected diagonally to the fronts due to the tandem master cylinder. So a problem with the back right could be affecting the front left. Years ago I had a problem on a Maxi with bad brake judder which also affected the steering wheel and this turned out to be bad wear in one of the rear brake drums. Something else to possibly check is the abs sensor which should have a slight gap between it and the hub. We have a 2007 2.2 hdi VTX manual estate and that makes a rubbing noise if not used for a few days due to a slight rust film on the discs but this clears after a few miles. It also has a hard drive in the radio/sat nav that can be heard most of the time. I have not tried an auto so do not know what noises that could make.
-
I do not know about the rear pads having sensors, you could look for any wires but I have not yet had a car with them. For the fluid level, I would just unplug it and with the handbrake off see what happens and if there is no change try connecting both wires in it to see what happens - there should be no need to earth it. An internet search brought up that unplugging the sensor on a different car switched the light off showing a sensor fault.
-
Maybe one of the sensors/switches is giving a poor contact. There will probably also be one under the bonnet to check. Do you have any messages on the dash that indicate when a door is open and if so are they showing the doors are closed when using the car that might suggest a poor contact ?
-
If it was a wear sensor on the front pads, all it does is connect to earth when the pads are worn by touching the disc - so it could be the wire to a pad is shorting to earth through worn insulation. You could disconnect each pad sensor wire to see if it helps. If a fluid level sensor that is at fault then you could disconnect its connector and see if it clears, if not bridge across it and check. Similarly with the handbrake switch.
-
On the front brakes, - have you removed the pads and cleaned everything up so the pads are free to move - have you tried with the handbrake on very slightly to see if the noise changes - have you checked the brake disc run out, the Haynes manual gives 0.05 mm max - are the pads Citroen parts or after market which could be noisier The rear brakes on the C5 suffer from corrosion between the caliper and suspension arm which needs removing every 1 or 2 years. If not the caliper is pushed out and can even reach the wheel. Symptoms here are rubbing and squealing noises. There is a pinned post on doing the back brake calipers and one on the front pads ones in the Problems and Fixes section. So, if you have not serviced the back brakes or checked them it is worth doing.

Eco mode is a Citroen/Peugeot thing to stop the battery going flat if things like the radio or interior lights are left on or the doors are opened a lot when the engine is not running. After up to about 30 minutes or less if the battery is not well charged and one of these things is left on (there will be a list in the handbook), then the battery supply to them is switched off. The eco mode will/should not reset until the engine is run again.

2003 Model. Any Upgrades To Speed Up The Speedo Updates?
paul.h replied to whothehekami's topic in C3 - Technical
I always found it hard to keep our 2003 C3 at 30 mph, usually 1 or 2 either side was best I could manage so it would be good if anyone has an answer. -
I am pleased it is sorted, there must have been a problem when the software was first installed and for the problem to have started just after it would have meant an unlikely coincidence for it to have been caused by anything else.

If disconnecting the air flow sensor (MAF sensor) which is usually in the air ducting just after the air filter, made no difference then this is often an indication it could be faulty. You could try to clean it using something like carburettor cleaner but if this does not work then a new one may be needed. If you have the fault codes you could put them on here since it may point somebody towards a possible cause of the fault. Also, which engine do you have - diesel/petrol/size/bhp is a dpf fitted ?

This topic has a few notes on replacing the diaphragm part http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/8259-antipollution-esp-asr-fault/?hl=diaphragm&do=findComment&comment=40936 -
Welcome to the forum. Have a look at the suspension struts to see if there are any lds fluid leaks. Bad front tyre wear could be the tracking is out or a suspension joint or bush is worn.

Eolys Fluid Low Level Signal Post Defap
paul.h replied to Old Mosher's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
If you think the eolys system is bad, its replacement using adblue is possibly worse. This is dosed in to the exhaust and where about 3 litres of eolys lasts about 80k miles, the adblue is approx 17 litres between annual services so about 12k miles giving about 1 litre each tank fill up of diesel, but it can not be added to the diesel tank if the dosing system fails. Also if the adblue level is too low it will prevent the engine running. -
I could not find the posts on the microphone not working but this topic tells you how to get to it in the roof http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20982-c5-fitting-a-bluetooth-mic/?hl=microphone&do=findComment&comment=75881

Welcome to the forum. I seem to remember this on the forum previously and I think it was a fault that needs the dealer to repair it. When I find the other posts I will put a link on here to them.

Welcome to the forum. Have you tried replacing the fuel filter yet ?

Originally I had intended to remove this topic but decided to leave it on since there are interesting points being made. Also if other members wish to know how you can remove the dpf warning then this could be done by sending messages with a copy of your original post (click on the envelope icon at the top right to open messages). There is a disclaimer in the General Discussion and Nonsense section http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/6882-disclaimer-please-read/

Welcome to the forum. All I can suggest is to visit your Citroen dealer. Since the car is giving a message of a fault I would think they can do a diagnostic check that will say what the fault is. If you have home start with a breakdown company such as the RAC they would take your car to the dealer. I think there is more than 1 battery if you have Stop/Start and then the main battery is a special expensive one to take all the starts. The other battery I think is in a box under the passenger front seat.
