Welcome to the forum. We had a 2003 1.4 petrol C3 and that was reliable and cheap to run. There are a few Common Problems in a pinned topic in the C3 Technical Section that are worth a quick look at.
-
Did you check for any air leaks in the air inlet or exhaust or maybe a hose that has gone soft or the air filter. If it was a gearbox worn bearing problem this tends to be a bearing whine as you accelerate. On our C4 that developed a rattle after a service and it turned out to be the air inlet duct was vibrating at the front since it is a slightly loose fit in to the box section at the radiator end - this was fixed by tightening it with a tie wrap and apparently this is a common problem since the dealer knew what to do.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can not advise which adaptor you need but you should check in your handbook which functions the old radio did through the Menu button since these will be lost. Usually these are things like setting the date and time, some headlight settings, rear wiper settings, language and units. It is also possible the car may give a fault code. Is the new radio working apart from the remote on the steering column ?

Welcome to the forum. Just a guess but it sounds like a bad connection, maybe the ignition switch is worn/dirty contacts. Maybe you could do a resistance check across its electrical connection.

Eolys Fluid Low Level Signal Post Defap
paul.h replied to Old Mosher's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
The ads that crop up when using the internet are generated by google monitoring your pc and seeing what you are looking at, so we will all be seeing different ads. I have noticed before that a member commented on ads appearing and the ones mentioned have not appeared on my pc. I do not know how to stop these - if you click on the Adchoice icon on the ads it brings up a google application but I have not gone further than this. As for dpf removal companies, there will likely be small print that says it can be done for cars used off road which they will see as a way of getting round the legislation to keep their company going. -
There is a list of things in the handbook that prevent the stop/start working so the battery does not go flat - have a look and see if any apply such as using lights/heating/air con/maybe it is switched off and not resetting/as noted above a low battery voltage - are you doing short trips ?
-
Maybe they should reload the new software in case it was not done properly.

Hi From Staffordshire - Citroën C3 Owner

Welcome to the forum. What year is your car ? We had a 2003 1.4 petrol and that was reliable apart from a couple of common problems and now have a 2010 1.4 petrol. The newer model is an improvement on the old one for when you need to change. On the C3 technical section there is a pinned post of Common problems but generally the C3 is a low cost reliable car. -
Going back to your previous topic of your air con not working, have you had the air con checked for the amount of refrigerant ? One of the common causes of air con not working is not enough refrigerant so its pressure is too low. http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/22221-c8-air-conditioning-not-working/ For the air con to work, the cabin fan has to run, the engine fan has to run (this will have a relay, possibly fastened to the fan cowling), there has to be enough refrigerant so the pressure is not low - there is also a high pressure switch which stops the compressor whilst the air con is working.

This link has a bit of info that credit card companies have liability http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/cgi-bin/glos/con1item.cgi?file=*ADV0003-1011.txt -
Mark17 has not been on the forum for 6 years and darrylsleet is no longer a member of the forum - so you are unlikely to get any replies from these 2. Can you use a picture hook fastened to the blind with screws or small bolts and nuts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/117-PICTURE-HANGING-KIT-MIRROR-PHOTO-FRAME-HOOKS-BRASS-NAIL-LEVEL-WIRE-SET-s5165-/221673326205?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item339cc2867d

If you are ok with French there is also the RTA manual which is similar to the Haynes ones http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rta-669-2-Peugeot-807-Citro%C3%ABn/dp/2726866913 but it might not be up to date enough for your model year. The service box ones are the best to get though and you install it on your computer rather than having a book. The service box does not seem to have any procedures that cover removing the blinds but maybe the clip covers prise/slide off so the blind can then be removed. Once you remove the blind please come back to tell us how you did it for the benefit of others.

C5 Vtr 03 How To Fix Issue - Panel And Auto Lights
paul.h replied to jezza53's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
:) the headlights coming on automatically when it gets dark and not an automatic gearbox. Also the wipers working automatically when it is raining. Try the following to see if they help, if not let us know: For the auto lights and auto wipers to work the windscreen needs to be clean at the sensor at the top middle of the windscreen - so something to check. On the end of the lighting stalk there is a button - if you hold this in with the engine on (or maybe just the ignition switched on so the dash lights up) the auto lighting can be set on or off - a message will be given when it is set. There may be a position on the light switch also for the auto lights to work. For the wipers to work automatically the wiper switch needs to be in the auto position, the first position after off and before slow speed wiping. -
C4 Hdi Not Firing Correct
paul.h replied to billy nomates's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Welcome to the forum. If it is smoking a lot possibilities can include: - burning oil due to a worn engine or worn turbo (the 1.6 hdi is known for the turbo wearing/failing) - the engine temperature sensor giving a wrong value so the fuel/air ratio is wrong - an egr valve fault (the egr valve should not open until the engine is hot) or a split in its actuator vacuum piping somewhere. - a fault on one cylinder so it has low compression - you say it only fires on 3 cylinders - fuel injector fault leaking excess fuel What colour is the smoke - blue, black, white ? If you have a code reader that does live data you can see what temperature the engine coolant sensor gives - with a cold engine it should be the outside temp so about 5 to 10°C and then increase to about 95°C when the engine is hot. -
C5 Vtr 03 How To Fix Issue - Panel And Auto Lights
paul.h replied to jezza53's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Welcome to the forum. If the display is the one on top of the dash the bulbs at the back of it can be replaced. According to the Haynes manual, the surround is removed by prising up the lower edge and pulling it towards you, then undo the display screws so it can be removed. There are 3 bulbs in the back of it that can be removed by twisting the holders. Haynes does not give the type of bulb but this may be in your handbook. I have not had an auto gearbox C5 so I do not know where the auto lights are located. If they are in the speedo panel then Haynes says the lights in it are soldered LEDs and if these fail a new panel is needed. If you do go for a used panel, beware that the car will adopt the highest mileage of your existing speedo or the replacement one - so if your car has done 50k miles and the replacement panel has done 80k miles, your car will then show 80k miles but if you then refit your old panel it will stay at 80k miles. I have slightly altered the title to help when searching the forum. -
My C5 In In Eco--Mod Where Do I Go From There ? Please
paul.h replied to zolgra's topic in C5 - Technical
The Lexia should work on your car although I have not used one. What area are you since there are some members who are able to help others with a diagnostic check and there is a pinned topic on one of the C5 sections. As already noted, the eco and engine management lights will not go off until the engine is run, regardless of whether the battery is disconnected/reconnected and this is normal and does not indicate a fault. But then the engine light will stay on if there is a fault that could affect emissions. The engine light can not go off until the engine runs since all the various sensors need to check the engine is working correctly - on our cars this takes only a few seconds after the engine is started. I do not know if not having the speed sensor connected would prevent the car starting or just put it in limp mode but once connected I would have thought the fault would clear so the car would run but the fault code would just be stored. If the crank position sensor was not connected this would prevent the engine starting but often when the crank position sensor fails it does not give a fault code so the light would not come on. I think sometimes fault codes that cause the engine management light to stay on will clear the light if the fault no longer exists after a few starts - so you could try switching on the ignition maybe 6 times to see if this helps. -
Oil leaks from the C5 X7 steering rack are a common problem and are included in the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned topic as follows: 25. New C5 (mark 3/X7) steering rack oil leaks - at least 5 cases so far. We have 2 members jefflad and Howiec with steering rack leaks that are proving difficult to fix. Where the supply and return pipes join the rack, the seals are leaking fluid. It seems Citroen want to replace the pipes to fix this and that just replacing the O-ring seals does not work. Citroen also do not sell the seals separately. An additional 2 members, Parkesie and johnfing, have found a leak from the steering column shaft input seal on top of the steering rack, which initially was thought to be the pipe seals. This seal also is not available so replacement racks have been fitted. The column shaft has badly rusted so may be the cause of the leak - applying grease could possibly prevent this. See http://www.citroen-o...uid/#entry75684 . See also this topic for info on replacing the rack http://www.citroen-o...ent/#entry81594

Could you not put the insides of your old key fob into the replacement one so that the imobiliser chip was also transferred ? If you want a complete new key/remote from Citroen they can be around £100, possibly +/- £50.
-
If it is just the button on the fob case that has worn then replacement cases can be bought from such as ebay for a few pounds. You then fit the insides and key blade from your existing key. If the key blade is a folding one, these are held by a small roll pin which can be seen and pushed/knocked out with a small screwdriver if the blade is part opened (pliers work well for sqeezing in the pin on refitting). I have done this on 2 different C3s and the replacement cases seem to be longer lasting than the Citroen ones. An example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fits-CITROEN-C8-Replacement-4-buttons-FOB-REMOTE-KEY-Case-Shell-/131107617325

Welcome to the forum. Any help you can give will be appreciated but also if you need any then just ask.

The parts diagrams only show complete seat frames available at a cost of around £700-800 depending on your VIN. So I hope you got a good discount since this would have been the option for the dealer, or a second hand seat. You may be able to look from under the seat with a torch/mirror to see what could be wrong.
-
Welcome to the forum. By buying the parts yourself it has given you a problem of liability - Citroen will only be responsible for the labour but eurocarparts are responsible for the rack but not its fitting. Each will say the fault is not their problem and if the rack needs changing due to a fault, then the labour will need paying again. Is the rack a reconditioned one - if so, maybe it has not been set up correctly so it is stiff to turn. First though I would go back to Citroen and see what they say. Also I am not sure which engine you have but as an example for the 2.0 hdi, Citroen list 4 different racks so it is worth confirming the one you got is correct.

From a wiring diagram in the French RTA manual for the C5 (X7), both wiper motors share most of the same wiring - a common earth, 2 connections between themselves, a supply (wire no. 9040 which splits to 9040D and 9040G - droit and gauche motors) from the engine fuse box, but there is a separate wire to each one from the engine fuse box (no. 500 and 501) from a relay 5 (fed from relay 4 and fuse F12) which seems to switch between these 2 wires. It does not show which motor is the master one. So from this, possibly a failure of one motor may affect the other due to the connections between each other, but I am not sure. Due to the high cost of a motor it is a bit of a gamble buying one unless you can get a used one. For a RHD car, left motor is 6405LE and the right one 6405LA. There is info on this topic that suggests a problem with one motor will affect the other http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21404-09-c5-windscreen-motor-replacement/

My C5 In In Eco--Mod Where Do I Go From There ? Please
paul.h replied to zolgra's topic in C5 - Technical
Welcome to the forum. Is the engine turning over on the starter motor or slow turning over ? If slow then I would check the battery voltage since if it is low (say below about 12.5 volts) it may not be turning the engine fast enough on the starter. If not low then maybe you just need to try a few more times to start it. Eco mode is a Citroen/Peugeot thing to stop the battery going flat if something electrical is left on such as an interior light or the radio. If using these or a door is left open, after upto about 30 minutes (depending on how well the battery is charged) the electrics to such as these are shut down and will not work again until the engine is run. When you open a door the eco message usually appears then for a short time until the engine is run. If you have the car handbook it probably lists the things that will not work. So you do not need to worry about the eco mode message. The engine management light normally goes off when the engine is started whereas the other dash lights are just a bulb check and do not stay on for long with the key in the ignition. So for some reason your car is not starting but I think it is probably nothing to do with the eco mode and engine management lights. When I have reconnected the battery on our C5 I usually reset the date/time once the engine is running so I suspect this has nothing to do with the problem. -
P1537 Intake Manifold Runner Control (Bank 1) Stuck Open P0101 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected P1112 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent Low Voltage P1138 Lack Of HO2S12 Switch - Sensor Indicates Rich The above are your original codes from the Petrol Diesel LPG Injection section on here. What code reader did you use ? You should read the codes again since replacing the flow meter should have got rid of P0101 and P1112 unless there is a fault with the new meter (or possibly it is not a Citroen part). I am not sure but P1138 may be an exhaust lambda sensor which may also have cleared with the new meter - however a search suggests a fuel pressure regulator fault and if so the new regulator should have fixed this unless it is a wiring problem.
