  1. It may still be worth asking a Citroen dealer about it, especially if the supplier is reluctant to do anything or it affects the warranty claim limit (if any). Also if there are later problems and the work had not been done by Citroen then Citroen may not be interested.
  2. Welcome to the forum. I think door handles breaking may be a common thing and there are posts on it on here. I believe the front and back ones are the same http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/15176-interior-door-handles-the-same-front-and-rear-2001-my/?hl=%2Bdoor+%2Bhandle&do=findComment&comment=60727 http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/15129-drivers-inside-door-handle-snapped/?hl=%2Bdoor+%2Bhandle The Haynes C5 manual is worth getting and on the C5 Technical section there is a pinned topic of common problems to look at.
  3. I replaced the belt / tensioner / water pump on our last C3 at 8 years and 39k miles, not wanting to take the risk of it failing early and intending to keep it for a few years after this. All the bits looked in good condition when removed. I will be doing the same on our C5 soon now it is nearly 9 years but it will be less than 30k miles when changed. Since we will be keeping it for some time it will need doing whilst we have it and this way the risk of the belt failing is minimised. There have been reports on here of belts failing and it sounds expensive so not worth the risk.
  4. From posts 2 and 8 the belt change is 160k miles or 10 years if sooner. The chain between the 2 cam shafts would not normally be replaced unless worn. So it looks as if there is no rush to replace the belt. If you do not mind, I have put your car details as your signature, something that maybe we could all do.
  5. What changes were made to the parts that allowed the mileage to be doubled ? It always helps if the posts include the car details since it saves time trying to guess or find out from previous posts and even then the car in question has sometimes been a different one to previous posts.
  6. Welcome to the forum jabus. Thankyou yogz for updating this topic, at the time I did suspect the C1 would not be up to long trips and the reply from jabus has helped to confirm this and fortunately you did not get one.
  7. It will be worthwhile looking at the wiring behind the switch. Possibly it has been wired in parallel with the boot release switch at the boot. If so you may find the wiring is different - Citroen wires are usually numbered in small letters rather than using colours so it may be obvious it has been rewired. In the Haynes C5 manual, it shows the tailgate switch simply earths a wire from the bsi (cabin fusebox), so if your car is similar, the wire from the switch would only need to connect to the switch wire on its way from the bsi, not all the way to the boot and the switch other side to the nearest earth point.
  8. From memory the older C5 may be wider in the back but if you measure your car and put it on here you can compare dimensions. Likely there will be pictures on ebay so you could see if the fittings may be similar enough.
  9. Just checked mileage, in a 2010 guide it gives 140k miles or 10 years and in a 2007 guide it gives 160k miles or 10 years for normal service. So you may find your guide is about 140k miles. Citroen's latest Maintenance guides no longer provide servicing information and say to look at the service plan that is provided by the dealer when you buy the car - so you need to photocopy your existing one if you change the car. The service plan does not give anything away either, just mileages when services are due without saying what needs doing. If there are any oil leaks though it would need checking in case it gets on the belt.
  10. The part nos for the 2008 on and pre 2008 models are different for the load cover at 8794XK and 8794NW
  11. Jim12345 has not put the car info down but from a previous topic it is a 2009 C5 2.0 hdi but whether the 163 or 138 bhp we do not know. Also it is a tourer vtr.
  12. The 2.0 hdi 138 and 163 bhp engines have a timing belt and a chain. The chain is between the 2 camshafts but the belt is between the crankshaft and 1 cam shaft (one at the back). The belt change interval is in the Maintenance and Warranty book but will be 10 years or 100-160k miles (I do not have a book to hand to confirm this). When you replace it though is up to you but if it snaps it could write the engine off. If keeping the car for many years and it will need a new belt during that time, then there is no need to wait to the end of the interval. If you use aftermarket parts they may not have the same extended life as Citroen ones.
  13. Do not be too quick to disconnect the battery or you may get some odd electrical problems if the bsi is not given time to shutdown. The following is from the C3 Common Problems topic but since your battery is in the car, ignore the bonnet and leave the door open instead: 20. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure. If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3: - remove the ignition key from the car - open the bonnet - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down - disconnect the battery negative terminal When reconnecting - ignition key out of the car - reconnect the battery - wait a few minutes - insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute - turn the key to the first position and wait a minute - turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute - start the engine - take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch - reset the clock (and radio on the C3).
  14. Welcome to the forum. When you unlock the car with the remote key or with the driver's door switch, does the boot also unlock and open or just unlock ? Thoughts are there is a wiring fault (possibly behind the dash/around the door pillar/in the sill) or maybe the previous owner had the switch function modified. If using the remote to unlock the boot and it opens, the lock may need adjusting. If the car is from a dealer you should take it back to be checked but if bought privately then ask the previous owner about the button.
  15. The radios on our Citroens have all been coded to the cars but the code is not lost when the battery is disconnected. You could try a battery disconnection/reconnection in case it was not done correctly but if you do need a code to enter in the radio your Citroen dealer should provide it if it is still the original radio - there may or may not be a charge for this, depending on the dealer. You could also try a bsi reset and there is a pinned procedure for this on the C5 Technical section. This is from the C3 Common Problems topic: 20.
  16. When you turn the key and the starter turns there will be 1 or 2 volts drop as the power is sucked out of the battery, but it should jump back up once the key is turned back/the starter disengages. How old is the existing battery ? Without a meter your options are to charge up your battery (but a meter is really needed to check it), try jump starting the car from another or replacing the battery - provided you have not found any connection/wiring problems. Some car accessory shops will check your battery before selling you a new one. If it is not the battery though and it is the starter motor you will have wasted money. A decent enough meter for house and car use does not cost much such as this one from Screwfix for £7.99 http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-mas830b-digital-multimeter-600v/75337 and this one from Toolstation for £9.35 http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/d190/Electrical+Test+Equipment/sd3348/Digital+Multi+Meter/p11867 On this one for testing a car battery simply turn the dial to the 20 volt DC range and then touch the test leads on the battery terminals - red for positive and black for negative. On this one on the meter the red lead is connected to the VmA location and the black lead to the com location. Meters similar to this one are available at many different shops and some also have a thermocouple for measuring temperatures. Using a meter on the resistance setting is useful when checking for good connections/broken wiring/faulty fuses/cross connections.
  17. Welcome to the forum. Is the radio the original one that came with the car when it was built ? Possibly it has been changed and the replacement has not been coded to the car which needs a Citroen diagnostic using a Lexia tool.
  18. If you look at the parts diagrams you might find some parts are used on a few models so you could check this. The Cactus is supposed to be based on the C4 so may be a start for the seat belts and then using the Citroen part no. you could try on ebay.
  19. Welcome to the forum. This topic may help since it could be the blower resistor speed control that is faulty http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/23020-heater-fanblower/
  20. It does sound like a flat battery. On our C5 if it is flat the starter will not turn or will barely turn, the headlights will flash and the front wipers will move a bit and the date/time will need to be reset. A flat battery would not give any warning lights, only giving the symptoms of not starting or the starter turning slower than normal. Once the engine has run the battery will be charged up a bit and then be ok for the day. Your rough running for a while may be due to a rich fuel mixture from trying to start the car. If you find the battery voltage is ok (about 12.5 volts or a bit more before running the engine) and if the connections and wiring are ok then maybe the starter motor is faulty. Once the engine is running you should have about 14.4 volts at the battery if the charging system is good.
  21. Welcome to the forum. Something drastic must have happened to write a 1 year old the car off, do you know what it was ? For low cost parts you may need to find another write off car, otherwise they will be dealer parts - maybe you could try for a discount if buying a lot and you are a regular customer. The ecu is likely to need programming to the car so that will probably need doing by the dealer. For a workshop manual it will be best to get the latest version of the Citroen service box which includes the procedures, wiring diagrams and parts diagrams. A quick ebay search could not find one though and ones from before 2015 will not include the Cactus so they should be avoided. If you can not get one then you can pay for access to the procedures on a time basis on the service.citroen site. Through this you can see the parts diagrams as a free service. 22. I can not understand this, 1 fob works as normal but the other only works when it is dark. The only things on the car that are light sensitive are the automatic lighting and automatic wipers - both work from the sensor in the middle top of the front windscreen. You could try covering the sensor to keep out the light to see if this lets the faulty fob work. If it is not light but temperature related then possibly the faulty fob has a bad internal connection/solder joint. This is from the C5 Common Problems topic: 48. Remote key repair. If the remote does not work it could be a solder joint on the pcb that needs resoldering and a new remote is not needed. See this topic by Old Mosher http://www.citroen-o...-remote-repair/
  23. I do not blame you for going for a low cost fix. If any other lighting/wiper/air bag faults develop due to the switch unit (comms 2000 unit) under the steering wheel then you may want to source a used part but you will need the correct part number since they all look similar but can be different. If you use your VIN (VIS) in the Citroen parts diagrams the switch unit can be found under Electrical and then under several sections. The parts diagrams are a free service if you register as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/pages/index.jsp You may need to select your language first.
  24. Welcome to the forum. What is the battery voltage - if low C5s can show all sorts of odd electrical problems. Without the engine running it should be about 12.5 volts or a bit higher.
  25. In a handbook for a 2008 C8 it shows a fusebox near the right end of the dash (may be for left hand drive) and gives: Fuses under the dashboard Unscrew the bolt a quarter of a turn with a coin, then, pull the handle to open the cover and access the fuses.
